PTA Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS PTA?

PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association. PTA is a volunteer association where parents, educators, students, and other citizens can be active in their schools and communities.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO JOIN PTA?

We ask parents to pay a membership fee to join. From this amount,, a percentage goes to the Upland District Council PTA  and National PTA.  Valencia PTA only keeps a small portion. Furthermore, the PTA relies mostly on fundraising to help support the school.

HOW IS MONEY FROM FUNDRAISING USED?

With money from fundraisers, we support the following activities:

  • School Assemblies
  • Red Ribbon Week and other gang/drug prevention programs
  • Schoolwide Reading Programs (such as AR)
  • Family Reading Nights
  • Movie Nights
  • Back to School Night
  • Book Fairs
  • Other related school events

This list is not exhaustive. We support the school with what it needs to help our kids have a safe, fun learning environement.

HOW DO WE KNOW THAT PTA MONEY IS REALLY BEING USED FOR OUR CHILDREN?

Any parent is welcome to participate in any PTA event. We are required to keep records, which are not confidential.  We would be glad to explain PTA expenditures to anyone.

CAN ANYONE BECOME A MEMBER?

Yes. Anyone can be a PTA member.

DO WE HAVE TO VOLUNTEER IN THE SCHOOL TO BE A MEMBER?

No. You are NOT REQUIRED to volunteer any time for our events and/or fundraising. We appreciate your assistance, but you are absolutely NOT required to do so. You can choose to participate in one or all activties as your schedule permits.  Feel free to contact the school or the PTA President if you would like to participate.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?

You can fill out an enrollment envelope attached to the first day packet or pick up a form at the office. Although we have a membership drive at the beginning of each school year, you can join anytime!
